If you have been watching “The Chosen” series, you may feel a renewed connection with Jesus or his disciples. We can enter into the story on the screen more easily when we’re familiar with Sacred Scripture. Bottom line: I have fallen in love with Jesus all over again!
I have seen the actor who portrays him speak in interviews, and he seems genuine to his character’s calling. Jonathan Roumie plays Jesus so convincingly, and this has me pondering…
When the actor is seen in public, he needs to watch his actions, so as not to betray the character he portrays. It could be scandalous to behave in a manner contrary to how Jesus was. If he were to say or do something contrary to “WWJD,” his portrayal would indeed be mere acting. But, he’s convincing both on and off screen.
The actor has said that his time on “The Chosen” has deepened his faith and changed his relationship with God. That appears evident in the interviews and talks he’s given. If he truly believes, his actions display this, and people are drawn closer to Christ through him. This also could be seen as a burden, to carefully watch every word and movement.
What about us? We are called to follow this example. We need to check our words and actions, if we profess to believe in and love Jesus. Do others see Jesus in us? Is it burdensome or second nature?
May we act with the love of Christ without having to be in front of a camera, read a script or get on stage. Remember: someone is watching.
